XYandZ

XYandZ is pleased to present 18 months, a preview show that will feature original pieces of work from artists scheduled to show at XYandZ through early 2011.  18 months will also include pieces from projects that XYandZ has organized and will be curating shows for.  The artists that will be participating in 18 months are:

Totem2 & Viper: Totem2 and Viper will be doing a collaborative show at XYandZ. Totem2 and Viper are nationally known graffiti artists that have been executing large scale in Atlanta.  This will be Totem2 and Viper’s first show together and the first time either have shown in Minneapolis.  Totem2 has shown his fine art nationally and has made a name for himself through his commercial work with companies such as Pepsi, Coca Cola, Popeye’s and Rockstar games. Viper is currently working on multiple projects due for release in 2010.

Broken Crow: Broken Crow is an ongoing stencil-based large-scale collaborative art experiment between John Grider and Mike Fitzsimmons.  Through meticulous preparation in their stencils, combined with an aggressive painting style and work ethic, they seek to create a dialog between foresight and spontaneity in the work they produce.

Keegan Wenkman: Keegan is a 26 year-old self-taught illustrator, currently living in Portland, Ore via Minneapolis, Mn. Keegan is the owner/operator of KeeganMeegan Press & Bindery and onefootinfront illustration studio.  Keegan’s work is self-described as “thoughtful, selfless, greedy, raving, amazing, botched, happy, needy, revolutionary people, objects, ideas, animals, and insects”.  These are the objects that Keegan loves and doesn’t want to forget.

Drew Peterson: Drew lives and works in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Drew studied art at the San Francisco Art Institute and returned to Minneapolis to complete his BFA at the University of Minnesota. At both schools, he studied traditional and contemporary printmaking processes while  integrating other studio practices including drawing and painting. He  actively participates in larger artistic projects including curating  and organizing group exhibitions, mentoring and teaching for youth  art programs, and collaborating on large scale mural projects on both a local and national level.

Dane Johnson: Dane currently resides in Los Angeles, California were he produces art and curates shows.  Dane’s art engages images that are destined to be forgotten, the ephemera of our visual world.  Through reworking advertisements, newspapers and lottery tickets Dane gives them a second life and thus adds to the visual culture these images exist in.

Eric Inkala: Eric is a painter, illustrator, and photographer living in New York via Minneapolis.  Eric is also known for his large scale outdoor murals.  Eric’s subject matter is a combination of characters and text which incorporate intense line work and vivid color schemes.

Ryan Quirt: Ryan passed away in May of 2006 leaving  behind a collection of roughly 4,000 pieces.  As an avid expressionist, the full spectrum of Ryan’s work could be described as bold, imaginative, playful, spontaneous and free.  18 months will be the first time that Ryan’s original works will be for sale.

18 months will be the second show at XYandZ, a Minneapolis based creative organization. More specifically, XYandZ operates a gallery, provides business, marketing and art consulting and last but not least has a beautiful space that is used as an entertainment venue.
